Elena Turac MSc
Administration Manager Austria, Germany and Switzerland
Elena is a passionate biologist specialising in ecology. She studied at the University of Vienna and went on to complete a Masters in marine conservation at the University of Oviedo. Being half Greek, she spent her childhood summers by the sea, which is where she first decided she wanted to become a marine biologist.
She’s particularly fascinated by whales, which led her to work in the Canary Islands for her Masters research, contributing to the development of a method to extract DNA from pilot whale blow samples.
Back in Austria, she works as a national park ranger at Neusiedler See–Seewinkel National Park and is also involved in bird of prey monitoring as an ornithologist, especially in relation to wind farm developments. She’s also on the board of the NGO MareMundi, where she helps with research coordination, communications, and outreach.
Outside of work, Elena loves spending time in nature and with animals. She’s a hobby illustrator, an avid reader, enjoys wildlife photography and travels whenever she can to experience new cultures.
